In The Kitchen with Vitaly Paley and Patrick McKee
You couldn’t have asked for a better crew to begin Portland Food Adventures' first “In The Kitchen” series than Vitaly Paley and Patrick McKee. This event is an interactive dining experience, with the chefs of Paley’s Place taking the guests through preparing a few different courses (paired with beautiful wines) in the amazing Standard TV & Appliance Showroom in Beaverton. I’m not going to do much of a narration here, except to say that this is really a one of a kind event. For any home cooks or just lovers of fine cuisine, it doesn’t get better than having some of Portland’s best chefs right there in front of you to take you through their process. I really loved seeing the dialogue between the chefs and the guests, with plenty of opportunity for questions, stories and discussion. I’d highly recommend any readers catch the next Portland Food Adventures at Cocotte and In The Kitchen with Kat LeSueur, it is definitely worth the small trek to Beaverton.
Getting some prep work done above, and the house charcuterie plates.
Above, right: Seasonally appropriate Curried butternut Squash and Pear Bisque. The curried powder gives this dish a little kick and balances the sweetness.
Course two above, Herbed Ricotta Gnocchi with Dungeness Crab. An example of breaking culinary boundaries by mixing ricotta cheese with seafood.
And finally above, Huckleberry Kuchen with Cassis-Huckleberry Sauce and Creme Fraiche. This Huckleberry sauce was so amazing that only common decency kept me from licking the plate clean.
Of course all these recipes can be found in the official Paley's Place Cookbook!
Thanks for reading, cheers!
